Amanda Heimann

Welcome to Biology

I am a Wharton County native and moved back to the area twelve years ago.  I attended Texas A&M and received a degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences.  I have always loved science and am excited to share that passion with my students.  Throughout the year, we will do many activities, experiments, and projects in class that will emphasize what we have learned.

Please see my syllabus for more details about my classroom procedures and expectations. Teacher notes are always available to view in class. At the end of the unit, notes and review material will be posted to Google Classroom. Textbooks are available to check out.

Tutorials and STAAR Review are on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:15 - 7:45 and Wednesday afternoons from 3:30 - 4:00.

Please email me with any questions or concerns! amanda.heimann@ebisd.org

Biology & AAC Biology

Biology is a two-semester course consisting of lectures and laboratory experiences designed to cover concepts concerning living systems.  It will involve learning new vocabulary and developing critical thinking, laboratory, and communication skills.

Throughout the year infused in the curriculum, we will be studying the nature of science, scientific inquiry, lab safety, and lab equipment.  Other topics will include interactions of living systems, ecology, biochemistry, cell structure and function, DNA, Mendelian genetics, human genetics, evolution, taxonomy, and human body systems.

OnRamps Biology

This year-long course explores three big ideas of biology: the structure and function of biomolecules, the flow of energy through living systems via photosynthesis and cellular respiration, and how genetic information is expressed and transmitted both within and between cells.

Students will learn to apply critical thinking and quantitative skills to real-world scenarios. They will develop their scientific thinking skills through Peer Instruction, laboratory activities, and active learning in an inclusive classroom environment. Additionally, students will be guided in the development and integration of verbal, written, and graphical communication skills.
